Thursday however, was a much more exciting Day. My colleague Neil, gave me lend of his underwater camera, I am hopefully going to be testing in Indonesia or Malaysia next week when scuba diving with my mate Basti. Basti has been travelling since July now and I will meet up with him in Singapore on Monday. We don’t really have anything planned out yet and will just go and head off into the adventure.
Anyway, thanks for the loan Neil, I hope to make good use of it.
After lunch in the canteen Kieran and I decided to go rebel style and went a different route for our lunchtime walk than usual. Instead of walking along the Liffey towards the Samuel Beckett bridge we turned right and went towards O’Connell street across to Trinity College. It was a nice walk again. This week the weather has been treating us very well. Not one day where the sun didn’t shine.
While we were walking through the Trinity ground we saw that there was a graduations going on. Lots of happy faces with friends and family for the guys.
Unfortunately the lunch break was also coming to an end and we had to head back.
In the evening there was a Sports & Social Club event planned (that is a social committee from work that arranges events). This one was going to be the first one with Irish Life and Canada Life Staff mixing up and thus a great way to get to know our new colleagues.
The theme of the night was Poker and we went to a nice little pub down the road from the office, that offers literately hundreds of beers. Most of them Craft beers from all over the world.
As I am not a very experienced Poker player I had to get used to rules again but it was good and we got to chat with our new colleagues. I started off playing it very safe but then lost some of the chips.
Nearly down to only a couple of hundred I then got lots of chips back by bluffing my way around and winning the pot with a pair of 4s against nothing. But a sit goes in the end all the money was gone again. Anyway, the reason to be here tonight was not the game but the people and the beer.
We enjoyed the evening.Well done Derek!
Leaving the pub around 12ish I decided to save some money and walk home. This also has the convenient side effect of sobering up (this is when I rang you Mom & Dad :-)). The walk took me through Grand Canal dock, Rings end and along the coast, then through Blackrock Park and home. Back home I drained two pints of water and was off to bed. That must have been 1:30 or so.
Another great day comes to an end... and tomorrow is going to be the last day at work for two weeks ! Good times rolling!
