Specifically to Chile.
I was again excited first to go there second to meet up with Kai in such a unusual place.
My bags were packed and I just had to get to the airport. Although it was going to cost somewhere between 25 and 30 USD I didn't want to take the bus but go by taxi, so I walked around Casco Viejo for a bit until I got an goodish rate of 25 USD and we set off.
Just about 1 km into the journey, just behind the fishmarket, we got pulled over by the police and after some minutes of talking it turned out my driver will have to spend some more time here with the police and I was to exit the car.
I had not to pay anything and was sent on along the 3 lane Main road along the coast to find a new ride.
From about 100m far away I waved at a taxi and impressively he spotted me and pulled over. He had already a passanger on board and I negotiated 20 USD.
No problem and we continued our journey, dropped off the girl and drove on.
He was a very, very quick driver, weaving through the traffic like in a chase scene of a movie ( I mean seriously, it was left and right and sometimes very close... the driver did not flinch once, so I assumed it was ok and we were sort of safe).
As a result we got to the airport very early and I had enough time to check in and relax before we were off on a Copa flight to Santiago de Chile.
First thing I did at the airport was getting money and trying to find the bus to one of the major metro stations in Santiago. That was not too hard and soon we headed on a busy bus to Los Heroes Metrostation.
From there I took the quite efficient Metro Santiago Metro to Banquedano station and then found the Hostel.
No one was in the room... good Kai is already exploring the area, so I texted him via facebook and in this moment (3 minutes after I arrived) he walked in the door.
It was a great reunion in a place that we would have not expected (although we joked about meeting up in Chile in August 2014) a few months earlier.
There was much need to talk about all the things that had happend since we have seen each other last time and it was hard get all the events in priority as there was so much to talk about. It was like a High speed data transfer for the first 30 minutes.
I also mentioned the fact that I had decided to stick to my lent an not drink for another 3 days or so. This caused shock in Kai's eyes and after a few more minutes of negotiation he convinced me that this was not the right time to do lent... (but when is the right time?).
So we went to a bar... a great place on the side walk, like all the places here in this lovely part of town called Bellavista, with little, colourful, square tables and chairs out in the front, latin music playing on the summer evening in South America.
It couldn't have been better.
Kai had met a guy on the plane that had a friend who ran a restaurant here and this was the one we were going to visit tonight.
We quickly found the place and figured out that this rooftop restaurant was quite posh and very popular, so we had to wait an hour. During which we visited another bar and decided that we both wanted to visit San Pedro de Atacama. Shame, since I just booked flights for the week after Kai had left. But maybe I will be able to change them or get the refunded or something.
Now it was time to go up the the rooftop and enjoy a steak with fried potatoes. A great meal and a good start for the weeks ahead.
After this is was already quite late and we had to get up early as tomorrow our trip to patagonia was goint to start in the morning.
