LA is my Lady

Welcome to California I thought when I woke up.. but somehow the fact of being in LA was not really causing the excitement that I thought it should.

Travelling so long seems to make you immune against being excited too much. Hopefully this feeling will return when I am back home.

Since I was not really excited I stayed in bed a while, read my book and relaxed.

Around 11 though I thought it's time to get up now an I slowly got ready, went to a coffee place at the corner of Santa Monica Blvd and just sat there, drank my coffee and watched the people walk by.

It seems LA is full of strange creatures... about half the people here walk around with yoga mats, some are so cool that I even froze a bit although I sat in the sun, there are people walking with sunglasses and bluetooth headsets making million dollar deals while sipping on a skinny caramel latte from starbucks and then there are plenty of poor bums, crazy dudes, talking to themselves and moving around with their arms... It really is a place where all the extremes seem to gather and live next to each other.

I liked the place... wouldn't want to live here but walking around and checking it out was quite fun.

There was a shopping area which I looked around. It was nice but it once again reminded me that we are very lucky to just have problems whether we want to go and get our shoes at armani or guchi... It seems, especially here in Santa Monica, there really is nothing in the shops that people actually need. Everyone already has a pair of shoes and a couple of shirts, but still the shops are full of people lining up to buy the iPhone 6 because their 5S is nearly a year old.

I am guilty of some of these things as well but I do think I have realized on this trip that this is not necessary. Now on the other side of the coin there was the following: I passed by a Tesla shop. I could sit in the Model S and play around with all the gizmos, I asked the assistant there if there is a smaller compact car down the line, but he said this would be quite a while away.. Which is good because I would have to start saving now anyway to get one. I really do think this is the way forward and once they get more affordable and I have a place to charge it at home, I would consider getting one. By that time the range surly will be extended and the charging times decreased.
Give it another 7 to 10 years. Looking forward to it.

It was hot outside and a big cup of refreshing lemonade was just the thing I needed. Looking on my map I saw that Venice Beach was not that far away and since I didn't want to take any of the shitty public transportation options in this city (there really is not much to get around without a car here) I decided to walk. Put on the Red Hot Chili Pepper's Californication album on my head phone and walked down along the beach.

It was great... seeing all the people doing their inline skating, and skate boarding and biking.
The weather was great. 28 degrees, not too hot and certainly not too cold, the sun was shining and all was good.

On the way back to Santa Monica I watched the sun set somewhere across the Pacific and knew it is now still high in the sky where I was just a couple of days ago.

I still was craving for some good mexican food (better than the van tacos from yesterday) and remembered this cozy looking place in the shopping area.

I got there and got led to a table but soon sort of regretted going there. It was whoooooo girl place.
Apparently some girl had her 21st birthday.... so she was out the first time in here life allowed to drink alcohol.

So they did... every time they took a sip of their beers or a shot of tequila the entire party of probably 20 people screamed "Whooooooooooooo".

Every Fuckin' time. Not sure if we ever where that silly when we went out drinking at the age of 16 or 17 even.

It was pretty annoying but the food was very nice... I had a big stack of sizzling fajitas with plenty of ingredients to add and three spicy sauces to choose from.

Back at the hostel I sorted out some bits and pieces for the next couple of days of travelling and more importantly sent a valentines poem (well it was suppose to be one but wasn't quiet on the level of Shakespeare) to my lovely girlfriend who was all alone on this romantic day (tomorrow).
