Driving South...

The phone was gone for good. It just didn't charge any more. Most likely the connector has corroded and didn't get any power any more.

The rain had been on and off for the entire night and there was no improvement in sight, so we cancelled the kayak tour and set off for a long day's drive.

It was a bit of a miserable day but we did catch a break in the rain at Haast where we had a quick stop for breakfast. We had to get going again because we wanted to use the rainy day to make some distnace and get as far south (towards Milford Sound) as possible.

We passed through Wanaka, the second Adventure paradise after Queenstown but didn't stop.
After coming over a pass on one of the backroads that led south we had a few kilometer of wonderful switchback roads down to Queenstown on Lake Wakatipu.

Since Queenstown was a bit bigger we stopped there (or rather near it in Frankton) to look for a electronic shop that could have a look at Dad's Phone.

The very helpful guy at the shop said they would have to send it into Samsung which would take a couple of weeks but then was very keen on selling us a new phone.

So we got a new phone which would replace my moms older phone but in the meantim until my dad's phone was broken be his phone. That is the official plan at least.

In the cafe next door we took a bit of a break and mom set up her phone. Well done mom!

Back on the road we headed for Te Anau, which is the base for most of the Milford Sound tourists.
The last bit of the route I was driving again.

When we got to Te Anau we cruised a bit through the town to find a place to stay and ended up at the Alpine View Motel.

Once again the Wifi was not working properly in the room so we could not install all the missing apps on my Moms new phone.

It sort of worked in the parking lot but since it was raining that also was not the ideal solution.
Just in time for dinner there was a break in the clouds and we, extremly optimistic, went by foot around town to find a nice place.

Once again we ended up at an unusual location: A chinese restaurant, a very authentic looking chinese restaurant.

It was a large, very basic room with many tables and even more chairs around them. No fake ming vases and the dirty fish tanks only held fish or other animals that would also end up on your plate.

Since there are many chinese tourists in Te Anau we thought it should be pretty good or at least very authentic.

We started off with some tasty spring rolls and dumplings as starters which was then followed by a really tasty dish of spicy lamb that we didn't order.

I really liked this but after eating about half of it the waitress came back and took it away from me.
Although the dish I had later was not bad at all I was a bit sad I couldn't have more of that spicy lamb.

Of course, when we left the place again it was raining strong again and e made our way home through the little park and were happy to have a roof over the head.
