Due to my great planning and spontaneous booking of a bus back I was now in Bangkok to get my Vietnamese Visa on a Saturday. But it's a holiday so I would find something to do.
First I enjoyed the complementary Hostel coffee and little fried doughballs again and then did some research on how to get the Visa and what to consider and where to go. Also investigated what is the best way to travel from Bangkok over Cambodia to Vietnam.
I have to be in Saigon on the 22nd of November to meet up with my mate Basti but of course I want to also spend some time in Siem Reap to visit the famous Angkor Wat and also head down to the Cambodian Capital Phnom Penh (still can't pronounce it correctly).
The Vietnamese Embassy opened at 8:30 on Monday and the Visa was going to take a couple of days to be issued, so it looked like I was going to spend a bit of time in Bangkok. "What to do here?" I thought and set out for a bit of a walk around the area. I found a park a little bit south of the Metro Line and walked around the lake. It was very humid and I didn't bring any water and for the the first time the closest 7eleven was at least 10 minutes walk as there seemed to not have been more than one gate in this park and I had to walk all the way around it to get back.
Being a bit bored and having internet on my phone I thought to check for some Geocaches around, and indeed I did find one right in the park. It took a bit f time to find it and I did have to use the hint photo (because my phone GPS wasn't very accurate) but I did find the cache.
After finally passing by a 7eleven and filling up my water contingent I decided to look for the Vietnamese Embassy so I at least know where it is. It was only two stops with the Skytrain and easy enough to find. I noted down the opening times and went back to Asok station to check out the Mall.
There are 10 or 20 malls along the main roads here in Bangkok and I just chose the closest to my Hostel to see what it's like, but this was a lucky shot and I think it must be the best Mall in the world.
It's not particularly large and also has no aquarium or ice skating rink but it is exciting in a whole other aspect.
It's called Terminal21 and when you enter it looks like an airport and you can take different escalators to different floors where each floor is designed like another major city around the world, wich it's shop front's looking like little alleys in London, broad boulevards in Paris, a bazaar in Istanbul or narrow passage ways in Tokyo. So I went all around the world while walking through an air-conditioned mall.
I ended up in San Francisco which is the food court. Another great point of visiting this mall. Up there were plenty of different stalls with so much food to chose from for so small money.
My plan for the evening was easy... get some food (I had a craving for some Indian), get back to the hotel and put on a film on the laptop in my little capsule and relax...
... But I met Pierre from New Caledonia again (he was here when I was in Bangkok the first time as well), who was just back from Chiang Mai and together with some other guests we had a few drinks on the little seats in front of the hostel and chatted away until late (late) in the night.
