Snorkeling

The four of us (Olivier, Chloe, Claudie and I) wanted to do more snorkeling in the morning and set out to swim across the entire bay to a little hidden beach which was suggested to us. It took a while to get there but was well worth the effort.

There were swarms of fish in crystal clear water, who were not the least interested in us being there. They just swam around us and pretended we weren't there. It was an even more colourful display of sea life than the day before. Maybe the colours were intensified by the bright sun that today was not hiding behind the clouds but lit up the waters of the bay.

We had bus at 12 so, we snorkeled back in time to get to town. Today was a good day to try to get across the channel in a kayak. But not before I filled up my energy level with a great tasting Red Chilli Burger from Bang Burgers.

Once we had our Kayaks (rented out for 200 Baht from one of the many stalls on Sairee beach) we set out. AT seemed to know what he was doing, I haven't been in one of these since 20 years and didn't.

The Island was probably 3 or 4 far away and across a busy (sometimes) straight. Great Idea so to try to kayak there. In addition my Kayak also had a leak which allowed water to enter the hull and made the paddling even harder...

I was very happy for our break in between to do some snorkeling in a little bay we found along the way to gather new energy in my arms.

Once we made it across the channel to the Island we had to pay our parking fee for the kayak of a 100 Baht and enjoyed the beach. It was pretty busy there, although all the other people arrived via speed boats or ferries.

Another chance for some further snorkeling ( I had to cancel a potential dive trip for the day as my left ear had some problems equalizing the pressure and hurt a bit).

The last major task of the day was to get back again to Koh Tao and get some food.

We all made it in the end and were pretty exhausted (I certainly) and needed some good food to reward ourselves for the hard day's work.

Today, was going to be my last day in Koh Tao (as I spontaneously booked a ferry and bus back to Bangkok) and my leaving dinner was a char grilled piece of Barracuda with a baked potato and corn... It was great.

We sat there on the beach at full moon, knowing only a 45 minute boat ride south of us on Koh Phangan was one of the biggest parties in the world taking place right now. The Full Moon Party. I really didn't regret not being there and was happy to chill with my travel buddies on the beach in Koh Tao. As it was the 11th Full moon of the year there was also here a festival taking place.

Yi Peng, which is mainly celebrated in Chiang Mai but there were also a few lanterns sent to the skies on our beach. So it really was a nice atmosphere to say goodbye to the beautiful little Island.
