Coastal Walk Aussie Style

I was in the mood for more walking and I heard about a beautiful coastal walk from Coogee Beach to Bondi.

There was a bus that should take me directly to Coogee Beach (just south of Bondi) from Leichhardt. I should also be able to use the ride on the bus to see a few different neighbourhoods of Sydney.

Waiting at the bus stop I overheard an elderly Australian Italian man speaking to someone else, and indeed the accent was very much like the American Italian in the Mafia Movies of New York. - Sorry, this had to go in the blog... it excited me quite a bit :-)

It took about an hour to get to Coogee Beach and it was a nice trip. But even nicer was the beach area around Coogee. There were plenty of little (expensive) restaurants and cafes.

The walk along the eastern shore of Sydney was wonderful. The sun was shining and the the ocean was as blue as possible. The walk took me a long steep cliffs, busy beaches, hidden coves with very dry bushes and no person around and then led me up to Bondi Beach where I watched the surfers for a while.

As I still tried to fill up my Opal card I jumped on a bus after I had a sandwich to get to Bondi Junction where I would take a train to Newtown.

Another hip neighbourhood in Sydney with apparently some punks, hippies, hipsters and other colourful characters.

The train would only bring me to a nearby station from where I planned to make my way through the back streets to King street (the main road in Newtown).

Just next to a station I found a Austrian Beer garden place that served Stiegl for 4 $.
I sat down in the shade of an old tree took out my Heinrich Harrer Book and had a beer.
A good, well deserved break.

After this nice rest Newtown itself was a bit of a disappointment as I thought of it not more than a couple of streets with shops that sell old stuff. A couple of nice town houses behind the main street and that was it.

So an hour was plenty to walk around there. Then I took another train, this should have been free as I used more than 8 rides with my Opal card already but it wasn't. What a shame - riding around all of Sydney not getting a free ride as promised :-(

Back at Lewisham station I walked through the Italian Forum in Leichhardt back to Karsten and Lulus house and picked up some groceries on the way.

I was assigned a task for the evening: Making a steak.

It was not bad and gave us the necessary strength we needed to pack our things for an early departure in the morning.
