To get out on the road early we got up at 6 and hit the road at 7. From Leichhardt we headed north through Huntleys Point over the Burns road which gave us a wonderful view of Sydney's Skyline in the Sunrise.
Now it was driving, driving and driving.
Looking at the map of Australia on my phone, we had barely moved out of Sydney after 3 hour drive.
At least the landscape was entertaining along the Pacific Highway. We also passed a few of the famous road trains of Australia, although the really long ones seem to only live in the outback (we only saw Trucks with a maximum of two trailers).
The road took us north until be had some lunch in Port Macquarie, a little sea side town.
The sun was out and even this little rest felt like a holiday at the sea.
On we moved on... we had to get further north to Murwillumbah, where we had booked a Hostel.
Another stop along the coast at Yamba we used to check out the Pippi Beach and found a little cafe/bar in the backyard of a house.
Here we had another short break and enjoyed some live music in the shade of a tent and had some lemonade.
From here I was given the driving position for the last 200 km or so. I especially enjoyed the last couple of kilometres when the road became more curvy as it went over the rim of the old Shield Vulcano of Mt. Warning and down into the Valley where our destination lay: Murwillumbah.
We quickly found the little hostel in a wooden house (painted in all kinds of bright colours) right on the the Murwillumbah river.
We were greeted by Tassie (as he is from Tasmania) who has been running this hostel since 35 years or so. He showed us to our rooms and we got started right away to make our dinner. Pasta with Tomato sauce - the ultimate, cost efficient Backpackers Dinner.
Luckily we had also thought of some beer when we went shopping.
Around 9pm Tassie came around and served Ice Cream to everyone - as it has been his tradition since decades (I guess).
The rest of the evening went by very quick - even without an HD TV and NetFlix.
