Up to Noosa Heads

Unfortunately it was time to leave our nice Hostel already and move further up the coast. Next stop was Noosa Heads from where we wanted to explore Fraser Island.

We choose to take the same mountain road into Queensland as we used yesterday to avoid the boring Pacific Highway (it does not travel close to the coast at any point as the name may suggest) for a while.

At some point it was time to get back onto the Highway again to make some distance. After we had passed through Brisbane we stopped in Redcliffe for lunch and tried to arrange a place near Noosa to stay for the night. It was gonna be difficult as Christmas is the busiest time of the year along the Gold and Sunshine Coast.

Even Camping Grounds are full at this time. Mostly it gets really busy from boxing day to just after new years, so we still had a chance.

We rang up a place on the north shore of Noosa and found a spot for two nights.

When coming into Noosa Heads we headed straight to the Tourist Information again and arranged a tour to Fraser Island. The largest Sand Island in the World and a "not to be missed" attraction on the east coast of Australia.

The Tour operates knew this and the cheapest trip we could find was 175 $ for a day. This included the 4 wheel drive bus, ferry trip, some tea and coffee and a lunch.

The very chatty woman at the Tourist information booked the last three seats for us for tomorrow. The tour would start at 6:20 from a mainland side of a ferry we would have to use to get to the camp grounds that were booked for the night.

As we knew at the camp grounds was a BBQ facility, we shopped for some beef, tomatoes, onions and potatoes before taking the little cable drawn ferry to Noosa North Shore.

The Camp ground and a pub (and the road that connected them) were the only two signs of civilization on this island. The rest was forest and sand.

When we asked at the Camp ground where to put up our tent we were told to drive back to the pub and ask Phil there.

We did so and he gave us spot 22N.

There we set up camp and started to BBQ while being entertained by a concert of strange animal sounds all around us.

It was a nice evening with a tasty and filling dinner.

My bed was the back seat of the car, which was more comfortable than expected.
