Bedbugs!!! Bedbug!!! - That was the sound I woke up to this morning.
One of my room mates (all Aussies) had a bedbug bite, and apparently it wasn't the first time they got bitten in this Hostel.
I tried to locate any abnormalities on my skin and was happy not to find anything.
From what I gathtered I must have been very lucky to travel from hostel to hostel and not encounter any bed bugs so far. Maybe I am to stinky or something.
I learned that you should wash all your clothes and yourself as soon as you hear the word Bedbug. The Hostel offered to wash our clothes for us. It was time for wash anyway, so I was happy for this offer.
In the meantime I had arranged to meet Matias later this afternoon. There was still some time, so I took a stroll around the new area, just to find that it was very boring. I could however enjoy another of these lovely ice cold cokes in glass bottles - these should really be reintroduced in Europe again. Much better than these horrible PET bottles.
After my walk Matias picked me up in his car and we cruised around town a little. He showed me a few different districts, and buildings. Including the highest building in South America - the 300m tall Gran Torre.
We took the car up to the San Christobal hill (that was much easier than finding a footpath) and enjoyed the smoggy haze lying over the Santiago Valley. In the distance we could see the Andes clearly though.
We enjoyed an ice cream and headed back down. Driving around town with a local mate certainly gives you a whole 'nother view of a town. You immediatly feel more at home than sitting on a subway or a tour bus. I really enjoyed it.
It was Saturday today and the Chilean "El Clasico" was on: Univesidad de Chile vs. Colo Colo.
On the news were already reports about riots and some of the streets were sealed of... what an exciting event for me as tourist :-)
Being in South America - we of course had to watch this game for cultural reasons.
We found a German Bar (they are quite numerous down here here for some reason) and had another Lomito and some beer.
It was actually a good game. UeD was in the lead and then Colo Colo (the Bayern Munich of Chile) drew even... then in the 92 a converted penalty for Colo Colo (as I said... like Bayern Munich)

The best part of the game was the atmosphere in the Bar though... there were fans of both teams and it was a real south american football experience. Shouting and jumping... It's just so much cooler to watch a Football game down here, even if it is "only" on TV. Crazy People!!!
We then decide to drive over to Parque O'Higgins to check out what was going on at the Lollapalooza festival.
It was held in a large city park that was enclosed by a high fence with plenty of security people along the fence. The difference to festivals I am used to in Ireland or Germany, though is that there was not much going on outside the fence. No food or beer stands, it was a quite neighbourhood with barely anyone walking the streets.
We got to the entrance and were considering to go in if we could find a cheap way but weren't brave enought to do it like one of the guys who climbed the fence and disappeared in somewhere in the bushes.
We decided to rather get some char grilled chorizo (the only food stand around) and continued our walk around the park. We passed some punk/emo kids causing trouble and trying to break through the fence in one pace... immediately the police squad was there breaking up the crowd.
We finally made it back to Matias' car and headed back to his place where I met the family (mom, dad, sister with her husband and their daughter).
Now it was time to do as you do everywhere in the world: Go to the supermarket get some booze and head over to your friends.
We got a couple a beers and a bottle of Pisco and went over to Matias's friends place.
I was a little surprised to find his friends sitting around a dinner table with their laptops set up and playing some World of Warcraft like game.
Luckily not everyone was focusing on this game and the guests started to move towards the couch and have some drinks.
It turned out to be fun night and when all the drinks had vanished at 3am the guys decided to head over to some club. Not for me, though, I can't stand clubs.
I was in for a bit of shock then.. My phone's GPS was broken and I had no Idea where in town I was and how I would get back. I didn't want to spend 30$ on a taxi so I tried to take the bus with some drunken instructions from my new friends.
One of the girls (yes there were even girls at the World of Warcraft Party) was headed the same direction but had to get off before, so she handed me over to some random passengers who told me when to get off. Remember I had not started the Spanish course and was verbally lost... (although in my state I thought I had a great conversation with them)
It worked out though and when they told me to get off, I found myself at a fountain that I remembered from earlier in the day and could make my way back to the hostel.
For some reason I now had to change bed again and ended up in the same bed that was originally assigned to me.
