Off to the coast

School's out for Summer... School's Out Forever!!!!
Yes, it was Friday and the last day of school. We went through a summary class and finally played that board game that had been lying in the corner of the room the last couple of days.
It was called "Guess Who" and to ask the other team whether the person we were looking for had blond, brown, red or black hair, if they had a hat or a glasses and so on. We could then, by their answers flip over little cards and it would end up being a certain person who the other team had on their card.
Our second session of the day, before lunch, was just chatting and eating chocolate.
After that I was off to get some lunch at Mr. Jack's Burger and stayed at the hostel for another hour or two until I had to leave to one of the big Bus stations in Santiago "Universidad de Santiago".
I could see if my Spanish worked in real life when I bought a ticket at the TurBus counter for Valparaiso.
I slept most of the bus ride and when I arrived in Valpariso I had to find my way around the city to get to the Hostel.
Valparaiso is very arty Chilean town with colourful huts nestled along the hills that sit on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. I was also told that I could be a very dangerous town if you went to the wrong neighbourhood... and to be honest the neighbourhood where I got off the bus look like it could be one of those "wrong neighbourhoods". However, I was to cheap to take a taxi... "I can find my way to the hostel alone!"
My Map App told me that there was a sort of tram along the coast, so I headed there. I had to buy a reusable smart card to use this train, which cost me more than the taxi probably would have costed me.
Anyway, the train went the right direction and opposed to buses can not make much of a wrong turn. That's why I like trains... they usually bring you where the map says they would.
So I got off at the stop closest to the hostel and walked the rest.
I had to walk up a steep, sort of curvy, narrow road to find a purple, small, cozy hostel. I got a warm welcome and had some time to sort my self out.
It was already quite late now and I had to get some food. The good thing was, the hostel was near the restaurant and Bar area of Valparaiso, so I had just to step outside and walk around a bit. After exploring a few of the narrow streets, steep hills with steps going up and down between the colourful huts and checking out a few places to eat I walked back and decided on a small brew pub just near my hostel.
The place was called Cerveceria Altamira and was the best possible choice I could take. They had an self brewed Altbier Style Ale and Crudo Aleman (Beef Tartar). The Beef was just great... I felt really happy eating it! The Altbier was a little different, more hoppy, than at home but still very nice.
I sat at the bar and instead of a shelf and a mirror on the back wall of the bar, there was a window that allowed me to see directly into the brewing kitchen. A man walked around, twisted some valves and looked into a stainless steel pot. It was just cool and made the beer taste even better.
A German Business Man with his Chilean Colleague was sitting next to me so I also had someone to talk to for a while.
I was considering to have another bowl of Crudo Aleman, but unfortunately there was only enough space for another Alt left.
So after that I headed back to the hostel hung out in the common area for a bit before finally retiring.
