Today I had to get on with it a bit. Diwali was over (sort of) and I had to get some stuff done. I had to ship a packet of heavy bits I won't need for the rest of the trip (Mom, you will get a packet soon I think :-)) and I had to get rid of my beard that had grown in my face over the last 4 weeks.
I was off to the General Post office first and dropped off an envelope of 2 kgs. It cost me 1710 NRP. Then coming out of the GPO I found this tall white tower that looked like I should be attached to a mosque. AS it turns out it was a tower that was used in the 1800s for announcements to the people of Kathmandu. You could visit it and go up the 213 stairs. The view from the top was nice. I could see the Monkey Temple, Durbar Square and some other sites of my very familiar Kathmandu.
It wasn't long though until I got bored of the view and headed back down in order to find my barber. I chose one that looked dodgy enough and was close to the hostel. It was just a little 4 square meter room under some stairs with two sinks.
A lot of people at the hostel didn't recognize me straight away but after the initial confusion settled it was all back to normal. Also Mikael and I were reunited as he arrived back in Kathmandu from Pokhara. Some new arrivals joined our group and we went out to find some food... (sound familiar?).
Today the search was not as difficult and we ended up at the Chinese place we tried the day before and had some great noodle soups. I think this was a pretty authentic Chinese experience with some meats hanging from the ceiling, extra charges for napkins and a limping dog that roamed around the restaurant.
After this we also bumped into Mattias on the street who changed hostels and was still on the mission to get his US Visa sorted.
Dirk, a German guy who also joined our group met up with his friend he met in Bolivia the last time and we all went of to... an Irish Pub.
The footy was on and the beer was cheap. But the evening really only finished after a long session on the top of good ole Alobar1000.
