The old Capital

We needed to do something else than just sitting around in cafes. Another Unesco World Heritage site needed to be visited. Bhaktapur is the old capital of Nepal and the majority of the old town is still relativly well preserved. Sharon and I took a local bus which in itself was already a little adventure, but we got there no problem. The same as Kathmandu and Patan, Bhaktapur has a Durbar Square. Although I did like Patan Durbar Square a lot the one in Bhaktapur had a little bit more atmosphere as there were no modern buildings around it distrubing the view.

Some of the buildings around the old town were more than 500 years old. We had lunch at a little restaurant which after a long search we finally found and then decided it was enough culture and Durbar Squares for a day and took the bus back to Thamel, this time the bus was even cheaper 25 NRP instead of 50. Yes, that's 20cent for an hour bus ride.

In the evening a group of us headed out to find some food but due to the festival it wasn't easy and all the places we stopped by were either closed or just about to. In the end we found a Japanese restaurant where the owner/chef/waiter was one person who was quite surprised and challenged by the arrival of the nine of us. However about an hour, which we used to clear out his beer fridge later we all got our dishes and they all tasted great.

Despite the fact that all the shops and restaurants were closed, the clubs were open, so we went around town and found a place called Purple Haze which I heard about a couple of times and turned out to be a great Rock Bar. We saw a live cover band that played more or less good covers of anything from the beatles to Rage against the machines. It was the first time I was out partying hard since I started the trip... Great times.
